How to Verify Your Identity on Flatmates Nigeria

Verify your identity on Flatmates Nigeria using your NIN or BVN to unlock verified listings, faster approvals, and the trusted badge.

Why identity verification matters on Flatmates Nigeria

Identity verification builds trust between Renters and hosts. Verified users are 3x more likely to have their booking request accepted. It also unlocks access to listings marked 'Verified Users Only', which are often the highest-quality rooms with the most responsive hosts.

Verification is powered by our partner DOJAH, which is licensed by the NIMC and CBN to process NIN and BVN lookups in real time. Your data is encrypted and never shared with hosts - only the verification status badge is visible on your profile.

Verifying with your NIN

To verify using your National Identification Number:

  • Go to Settings → Verify Identity in the Flatmates app or web dashboard
  • Select 'NIN Verification'
  • Enter your 11-digit NIN
  • Take a short selfie video as instructed - this is a liveness check
  • Submit and wait for confirmation (usually under 2 minutes)

Your NIN must match the name on your Flatmates account. If there is a discrepancy - for example your legal name differs from the one on your profile - contact support before attempting verification.

Verifying with your BVN

If you prefer to verify with your Bank Verification Number instead:

  • Go to Settings → Verify Identity
  • Select 'BVN Verification'
  • Enter your 11-digit BVN
  • Confirm your registered phone number (an OTP will be sent by your bank or the NIBSS system)
  • Complete the liveness selfie check

BVN verification also confirms your mobile number and bank linkage, which may grant you a higher trust score on the platform - useful if you are applying for multi-month rentals.

Common verification issues and how to fix them

If your verification fails, the most common reasons are:

  • Name mismatch - your Flatmates account name does not exactly match your NIN or BVN record
  • Expired NIN - your NIN record shows as inactive; visit any NIMC enrolment centre to update
  • Liveness check failure - ensure you are in good lighting and follow the on-screen prompts carefully
  • OTP not received - ensure your phone number is the one registered with your bank

If you have followed all the steps and verification still fails, tap 'Get help' on the verification screen and our support team will review your case manually within one business day.
