Finding Flatmates on Flatmates Nigeria

Learn how to search listings, filter by neighbourhood, and connect with compatible flatmates in Lagos, Abuja, and beyond.

Setting up your Renter profile

Before you start browsing, complete your Renter profile. A complete profile - including a clear photo, a short bio, your occupation, and your lifestyle preferences - makes hosts and existing flatmates more likely to accept your request. Profiles with at least one verified contact (NIN or BVN) receive priority in search results.

Head to Settings → Profile and fill in all the required fields. You can also link your LinkedIn profile for additional social proof, which is particularly valued for co-living arrangements in Victoria Island, Lekki, and Maitama.

Searching for shared rooms and flatmate listings

Use the main search bar and enter a neighbourhood, estate, or landmark - for example 'Yaba', 'Garki 2', or 'Gwarinpa'. Set your move-in date and budget range, then apply filters for room type (private room, shared room, self-contain), gender preference, and house rules such as no-smoking or pet-friendly.

The 'Flatmate matching' filter is unique to Renter accounts. It surfaces listings where your lifestyle answers (sleep schedule, cleanliness score, guest policy) closely match the existing flatmates already living in the property.

Save listings you like by tapping the heart icon - they will appear in your Saved Homes tab so you can compare options before committing.

Contacting a host or existing flatmate

On any listing page you will find two options: 'Request to book' (which initiates the payment flow) and 'Ask a question' (which opens a free message thread with no financial commitment). Use 'Ask a question' to clarify house rules, confirm availability, or introduce yourself before booking.

Be specific in your first message - mention your profession, when you want to move in, and what you are looking for in a flatmate. Hosts in high-demand areas like Ikeja GRA and Wuse 2 receive many enquiries, so a personalised message greatly improves your chances of a response.

What happens after you connect

Once a host or current flatmate responds positively, proceed to 'Request to book'. You will be asked to confirm your move-in date, intended length of stay, and to pay a holding deposit to secure the room. The holding deposit is deducted from your first rent payment.

If the host has Instant Book enabled, your request is confirmed automatically as soon as payment is processed through Paystack. You will receive a booking confirmation email and SMS with the property address and check-in instructions.
